BROWN UNIVERSITY is located in Providence, Rhode Island about one hour from Boston and three hours from New York.  The campus is located in the city’s historic district on picturesque College Hill, cleverly disguised by mossy brick and ancient trees.  Downtown is just a few blocks away from campus and boasts a scenic riverfront, concert venues, shopping and a diverse variety of restaurants all waiting to be explored.

TRAVEL


HOW TO GET TO PROVIDENCE FROM BOSTON LOGAN

Boston Logan Airport is situated approximately 49 miles north of Providence.

Both the train and commuter rail services (below) are between Boston South Station and the Providence Station

  • Boston South Station may be accessed from Logan Airport by either Silver Line Shuttle or Taxi. The Silver Line SL1 bus service takes approximately twenty minutes and is free from Logan Airport inbound to South Station. However from South Station to Logan Airport, the adult fare for the Silver Line bus service is $2.75. A taxi from Logan to South Station will cost about $15.00 and take around 10 minutes.
  • The Providence Station is a 5 minute taxi or 10 minute walk from the Graduate Providence Hotel.

Train: Amtrak / North East Service or Acela 
Amtrak offers many daily runs between South Station and the Providence Station. 
North East Service: From Boston South Station to Providence = approximately $20.00 one way
Acela: From Boston South Station to Providence = approximately $40.00 one way

Commuter Rail Providence/Stoughton Line: MBTA 
The MBTA is an excellent commuter rail service also offering many daily runs between Boston and Providence.
From Boston South Station to Providence = $11.50 one way

Bus: Peter Pan Bus Service 
The Peter Pan Bus Service offers a direct bus service from Boston (Logan Airport) to Downtown Providence (Rhode Island Convention Center located at 1 Sabin St), only a 5 minute walk to the Graduate Providence Hotel. Depending on time of day, the fare is approximately $48.00 round-trip

Taxi: Brown University does not reimburse expenses for a taxi service between Boston and Providence.


HOW TO GET TO PROVIDENCE FROM PROVIDENCE TF GREEN AIRPORT

Providence TF Green Airport is situated approximately 8.5 miles south of Providence.

Taxi & Rideshare:
Providence Airport taxi:  Approximately $40 one-way from Providence TF Green Airport to the Graduate Providence Hotel
Lyft/Uber Rideshare: Fare ranges depending on the time of day

Workshop Shuttle Times for Participants Staying at The Graduate Providence Hotel
Event organizers are providing a bus service to bring invited participants from the Graduate Providence Hotel to the workshop venue at Brown University. The bus will run at the beginning and at the end of each day.

Parking:

Visitors may find parking on the streets in and around campus, or in Lot 68, also called the Power Street Parking Garage located at 111 Power Street. Entrance to the garage is located at the intersection of Power and Thayer streets.

The lot contains two Pay and Display parking pay stations. One is located at the Power Street entrance and the second is in the far corner of the lot by Brook Street. The Pay Stations accept credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover) and U.S. bills. (Note that the pay stations do not give change.)

Visitor Parking Lot Rates:

  • Mon – Fri 8 am – 6 pm: $3.00/hour
  • All Day Rate until 6 pm (M-F): $15.00
  • Weekdays after 6 pm, weekends, holidays: $2.00/hour
