Position Description
Brown University's Center for Middle East Studies invites applications for a one-year position at mid-to-senior level as Darwish Visiting Scholar in Palestinian Studies. The position is open to all disciplines in the humanities and the social sciences. We especially welcome candidates who have wide knowledge of Palestinian society and culture, thrive in an interdisciplinary environment, are interested in comparative and global perspectives, and have experience teaching and supervising undergraduates. The successful candidate will teach two classes a year.
We seek a candidate with an outstanding record of national and international scholarly achievement, a clear commitment to excellence by providing leadership in teaching and research toward building an equitable and diverse scholarly environment, and a willingness to play a leading role in the Center for Middle East Studies’ New Directions in Palestinian Studies Initiative.
Additional funding for programming will be considered.
Qualifications
The position is designed for scholars at the full or associate professor level. Teaching experience and a record of publication and professional service are desirable. Residence in the Providence area is required for most of the duration of the appointment.

A detailed statement describing the applicant’s research. The statement should not exceed 2,000 words, including all bibliographic references and supplementary material
Three references for scholars familiar with the applicant’s research

Proposed class syllabus.
The search committee will begin reviewing applications on January 24, 2022, and will continue to review until the position is filled. The appointment is for academic year 2022-2023.
